Apartment Renovation – St Benedicts Steet, Newton
The former D Arkell Bottling Store has considerable local and regional significance as a rare surviving remnant of Auckland's early industrial and brewery history.
Exposed brick walls, soaring timber ceilings, natural light in some spaces and cosy retreats in others, a unique, industrial-inspired atmosphere.
Project brief: Mixing old with new!
Converted into five apartments in the 1990s, we were fortunate to be invited to work on this special historic building. Our recent works included structural upgrades, layout changes, and the addition of an extra bathroom and bedroom to suit the family’s needs.
We also introduced new flooring, a modern kitchen, and extensive basement upgrades—transforming the home into a truly unique space that balances heritage character with modern living.
Design & planning
The design phase focused on integrating modern living requirements without compromising the buildings architectural heritage.Â
Key features of this home renovation included:
- Kitchen: Sleek cabinetry, appliances, and an open layout perfect for entertaining.
- Bathroom: Addition of a 2nd bathroom.
- Bedroom Addition of a 3rd bedroom
- Living space: This home was rich with opportunity in its subtle nooks and quiet corners, which the design utilised with great effect.
- Future proofing Being an older building some structural items were addressedÂ
- Basement development Â
Timeline and budget
